The revised petroleum levy rates will be applicable across the country, taking effect immediately. It is worth noting that the development levy on high-speed diesel will remain unchanged at Rs 50 per liter, ensuring consistency in the taxation policy for this particular fuel.

By revising the petroleum levy rates, the government aims to enhance its revenue generation capabilities and tackle the financial challenges faced by the country.
It is crucial to highlight that as part of the new IMF program, the levies on both petrol and high-speed diesel will experience gradual increases, ultimately reaching Rs 60 per liter. This adjustment in levies will have implications for the general public, as they are expected to contribute a substantial amount of Rs 859 billion towards the petroleum levy during the fiscal year FY 2023-24.
In a recent announcement, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar unveiled the revised petrol prices, which will remain effective until 15th July. Providing stability, the Minister stated that petrol prices would remain unchanged at Rs. 262 per liter. However, there has been a notable increase of Rs. 7.50 in diesel prices. Consequently, the new per-liter price for diesel will be Rs. 261 for the upcoming fortnight. These adjustments reflect the ongoing efforts to align fuel prices with the prevailing economic conditions and policy objectives.
