The Federal government is currently considering the possibility of resuming the Kissan Package, a financial support program for farmers, in next year’s budget.
According to reports, the Prime Minister recently instructed the Ministry of National Food Security and Research and the Ministry of Finance to resume the Kissan Package. This program had been stopped due to objections from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The prime minister also mentioned that the federal government will keep supporting the prices of essential goods like wheat and cotton.
Sources also mentioned that the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of National Food Security and Research to overhaul the Agriculture Policy Institute and Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB). This aims to improve sustainable productivity and foster competitiveness in the agricultural sector.
Sources have stated that the Prime Minister desires the advancement of Pakistan’s agriculture sector, similar to that of Holland and the US. Therefore, importing necessary goods from other nations is not an option.
Sources further indicated that the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Energy and Commerce, division, to develop suggestions for granting relief to the Textile sector in the forthcoming budget. These suggestions involve offering regionally competitive RLNG/Gas tariffs.
