Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha of Rawalpindi Division has taken proactive measures to boost the effectiveness of the Agriculture Task Force. In a significant move, he has instructed all deputy commissioners under his jurisdiction to swiftly establish a dedicated task force. The primary objective of this task force is to streamline and enhance agricultural initiatives in the region.
Chairing the Divisional Agriculture Task Force Committee meeting in Rawalpindi, Commissioner Chattha issued this crucial order. Also, The meeting witnessed the presence of esteemed individuals, including Rana Shahid, the Director of Agriculture, and Sadia Bano, the Deputy Director of Agriculture (extension). Additionally, Director Livestock Mohammad Sarfraz Chattha and representatives from the farming community were also in attendance.
The significance of the meeting was further emphasized by the participation of DC Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal, who joined the proceedings through a video link. This ensured a comprehensive exchange of ideas and insights from across the division.
Commissioner Chattha’s directive highlights his commitment to fostering agricultural growth and development. By leveraging the task force’s expertise, the commissioner intends to tackle agricultural sector challenges and encourage sustainable practices. The creation of this task force represents a major stride towards these goals, demonstrating the administration’s proactive support for the farming community.
Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatttha proposed active participation of three to four farmers from each district as members. He emphasized the significance of creating WhatsApp groups at the tehsil level. These groups would engage farmers and agricultural officers.
They would serve as platforms for sharing essential information like weather forecasts, seed sale locations, and relevant crop updates. Commissioner Chatttha stressed the importance of equipping farmers with crucial knowledge. This includes availability of agricultural commodities, implementing modern practices for high yields, and guiding them in selecting suitable crops for their lands.
The commissioner, upon immediate notice of the non-availability of seeds in Chakwal and irregularities in the Land Record Center in Attock, swiftly took action. He promptly issued instructions to the relevant deputy commissioners, urging them to rectify the situation without delay.
Recognizing the significance of safeguarding animal health, the commissioner also directed the livestock director to make optimal use of vaccines. Additionally, he emphasized the need for third-party validations of vaccinations administered by the livestock department, ensuring comprehensive protection against diseases.
Furthermore, in a bid to enhance agricultural productivity, Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha underscored the importance of encouraging farmers to venture into value-added crops. According to him, the cultivation of fruits, flowers, and vegetables holds immense profit potential. He expressed concern over the current low percentage of fruit and vegetable cultivation in Potohar, which stands at a meager 3 percent. Consequently, his aim is to increase it substantially to at least 30 percent.
